Tony Pope Tony Pope

Tony is the outstanding batsman of the team and more often than not he heads the bowling averages as well. Tony is a near chanceless opening batsman who can also bowl for an entire innings with unnerving accuracy. Tony's 2004 season saw him average 306 with the bat after only getting out once

Right hand bat, Right arm medium/fast

Highest score: 106*, Best bowling: 6-18

Paul Hartley Paul Hartley

Paul is one of the senior pros of the side, providing worldly-wise advice and banter on and off the pitch. He regularly contributes with the bat and provides a steadying influence in the top order. Has been known to put on the gloves now and again.

Right hand bat, Wicket keeper, Bowler

Highest score: 64, Best bowling: 5-17

Shane Carroll Shane Carroll

Shane is The Grove's skipper and is an inspirational leader on and off the field not afraid to use ground breaking tactics. He is an all-rounder who likes to play his shots and bowls useful medium pacers.

Left hand bat, Right arm medium

Highest score: 74*, Best bowling: 5-17

Ty Ty Meaney

Ty is a very competitive member of the squad who contributes highly with bat, behind the stumps and general banter in the field. Often accompanied by his good lady Sharon, they contribute to lively debate in the pavilion whilst ensuring that the world's Rosé makers are kept busy.

Right hand bat

Highest score: 86*, Best Bowling: 3-18

Gary Gary Ash

Gary is a popular member of the team and vice captain who at last is scoring runs fluently after a difficult start to his Grove career. Gary has set himself a challenge during the season to lose enough weight to fit into one of our new tight-fit shrinkable team shirts.

Right hand bat

Highest score: 42, Best Bowling: 3-23

Kilne Kiln

Kiln has shown a lot of promise as a fast bowler with a particular penchant for the short pitched ball. A couple of Grove's keepers have had sore hands after a few overs of his bowling. He has also demonstrated some steely batting in the tail.

Right hand bat, Right arm fast

Highest score: 62, Best bowling: 6-15

Liam Hammond Liam Hammond

Son of Mark and a Grove regular whose bowling is developing well. He has developed into a class opening batsman and has proven to be stubborn to get out. Has taken some useful catches at slip.

Right hand bat, Right arm medium

Highest score: 68, Best bowling: 5-21

Mark Firore Mark Firore

Mark is another of our regular genuine all-rounders who often opens the bowling with good pace and bats solidly at any position, playing a wide variety of strokes on the off-side.

Right hand bat, Right arm fast

Highest score: 84, Best bowling: 5-19

P Mayhew Peter 'Sticky' Mayhew

Our bi-weekly opening batsman, affectionately known as "Sticky", is a rock at the top of the innings...literally. His favourite method of dismissal is LBW. In the field he has a surprisingly safe pair of hands, taking a few important catches.

Right hand bat

Highest score: 68

Chris Beard

Chris is a new comer to The Grove, first appearing in 2008. An outstanding batsmen and superb wicket keeper who is our own Brendan McCullum or Adam Gilchrist.

He scores runs all around the wicket and is always on had with cheery word or half time sing song when the heads start to drop.

Right handed bat, Wicket keeper

Highest score: 123

Lee Meaney

Lee is a class batsmen and more than useful wicketkeeper.

He plays shots all around the ground, where more often than not he is one of the leading scorers with the bat.

A talented and gifted drinker, Lee is always on form at the bar after a match where his style with a pint in hand is only surpassed by his shot making out in the middle.

Right hand bat

Highest score: 83

Daniel Gray

Part of The Grove's colts section, Daniel has gone from part time player to fully fledged Grove regular.

Daniels unorthodox bowling action has yet to trouble the batsmen but has endangered his own toes. A legitimate all rounder whose running between the wickets is completely out of unison with the batsmen at the other end. Always remove the sight screens if Daniel is playing, otherwise they may not be the same again. International honors are surely not far away.

Right handed bat, Right arm medium

Highest score: 11, Best bowling: 0-6

Graham French Graham French

The Grove's 2005 signing who after a period of absence from the game, has settled nicely into the Grove team. He has had a consistent season so far, taking wickets with his devilish spin and scoring well in the middle order, but after having twins with his good lady wife has had limited appearances in recent years

Right hand bat, Left arm spin

Highest score: 75*, Best bowling: 6-33

Mark Hammond Mark Hammond

Mark is the longest serving member of the The Grove and non playing member of late . He keeps the club together. Mark has often carried his bat unbeaten with an array of orthodox and unorthodox shot making. Luck is usually on Mark's side as he is often dropped during an innings.

Right hand bat, wicket keeper

Highest score: 53*
