5 with Liam Hammond picking up
2 for 38. Colin Bruin 52 and Mark Hammond put on 45 for the first Grove

outing in five for the season due to weather and had to settle for a
draw at their visit to Gateway. Tony Pope 53 and Norman Winterman 28
put on 52 for the opening wicket but from there the runs started to dry up
and it was down to John Steel with an unbeaten 27 to steer them through to
142 all out. The opposition had the game delicately poised at 130 for 5
needing 13 off the final two overs. A fine final over from Mohammed
conceded just 2 runs as they finished 6 runs short of victory. |

Nuxley in The Grove bowled aggressively and economically and
for the first time this season bowled out the opposition for 143 with Mohammed 4
for 16 and Adam Hills 4 for 47 the pick of The Grove bowlers.
In reply The Grove were up with
the required run rate through out thanks to some awesome batting
from John Gager (60) including 8
fours and 2 sixes, but a steady fall of wickets at the other end
saw The Grove hold out for a draw
on 120 for 8.
|
| The
Grove v Wilmington - June 6 2004 The
Grove batted first and put on 110 for the first wicket with Norm Winterman
hitting an impressive 90. Mark Fiore and Alan Burgess also contributed
with 23 and 25 respectively. Liam Hammond picked up 3 for 15 as the

| The
Grove v Petts Wood - June 13 2004 The
Grove finally chalked up their first win of the season with a 3 wicket win
in a low scoring encounter away at Petts Wood. The home side electing to
bat first found conditions difficult on a pitch of variable bounce as they
were dismissed for 122 with Mohammed claiming 3 for 22. The Grove
faired little better and were struggling at 54 for 5, despite a quick 27
from Norman Winterman, when a 6th wicket stand of 50 from Mohammed 39 and
Pope 20no proved to be the turning point in the game as we eventually
reached 123 for 7 with an over to spare. |
| The
Grove v Bexley Park - June 20 2004 The
Grove were thwarted in their fixture at Bexley Park as the rain constantly
stopped play. With the game eventually reduced to 25 overs a side a
further downpour after tea finally ended proceedings with Bexley on 115
for4 after 21 overs. |
| The
Grove v Carlton Sports - June 27 2004 The
rain came again and caused yet another abandonment as the Grove chased 167
for the win in a 40 over game. Wasim had taken 3 for 17 in a fine spell
and the Grove were handily placed at 70 for 4 when the heavens opened and ended
the days play. |
| The
Grove v Bexleyheath - July 04 2004 The
Grove produced their best display of the season as they defeated
Bexleyheath by 57 runs at Park View Road. Winning the toss and batting
first the visitors soon found themselves in trouble as they slumped to 20
for 3. The game turned with a 4th wicket partnership of 140 between Alan
Burgess 65 and Colin Bruin 54, with Alan Burgess hitting two sixes, one of which
was deposited on the football club stand next door to the ground. John
Steel followed up with a hard hitting 31no including one mighty six that
cleared the ground and the passing 96 bus. A late flurry from Mohammed 20
saw the innings close on 227 for 6. Heath started their reply in steady
fashion but with wickets falling regularly and none of their batsmen able
to tame the Grove's bowling attack they were bowled out for 170 with two
wickets apiece for Mohammed, Carroll,
Winterman and Hartley. |
| The
Grove v Wilmington - July 11 2004 The
Grove chalked up a second successive victory as they defeated Wilmington at home by 6 wickets. With Wilmington put into bat on a green
wicket they slumped to 11 for 2 before some hard hitting pulled them
through to 163. Both Tony Pope and Mohammed returned figures of 3 for 50
with Mark Fiore and Bobby Start picking up 2 for 33 and 2 for 27
respectively. Alan Burgess 33 and Jason Cross 21 added 62 in reply for the

finished on 164 for 6 with nine balls to spare. |
| The
Grove v Nuxley - July 18 2004 The
Grove were forced to dig deep early in order to secure a five wicket win
away to Nuxley. The Grove were 11 for 2 when a third wicket partnership of
44 between Colin Bruin (18) and Shane Carroll (32) got the innings back on
track. Mohammed (24no) and Norm Winterman (18no) took over to guide
the Grove through to 108 for 5 in reply to Nuxley's 107 all out. Alan
Burgess (3 for 15) and Mark Fiore (3 for 38) ripped out the middle order
as Nuxley collapsed from 67 for 1. Winterman and Mohammed also took two
wickets a piece as Nuxley were sent reeling. |
| The
Grove v Old Dartechs - July 25 2004 The
Grove picked up their fourth win on the spin and completed a 100% winning
run for July as they defeated Old Dartechs by 6 wickets. Mohammed claimed
the visitors first four wickets in a spell of 4 for 29 from which
they never recovered as they slumped from 51 for 5 to 70 all out.
Peter Mayhew, on his return to the side, made 24 and along with Liam
Hammond 28no helped the Grove through to 73 for 4 off just 18 overs. |
| The
Grove v Old Colfeans - August 8 2004 The
Grove chalked up a fifth win in a row with a comfortable victory at home
to Old Colfeans. Batting first The Grove eased their way to 221 for six
thanks largely to an unbeaten 81 from Tony Pope. Contributions from Colin
Bruin (20) Norm Winterman (33) Shane Carroll (28) and Mark Hammond (22)
underlined The Groves 2004 batting strength. Mohammed, Mark Fiore, Bobby
Start & Richard Baker put a strangle hold on the oppositions batting,
picking up one wicket a piece as they never allowed Old Colfs to get going
ending their innings tamely on 176 for 6 in the 40 overs a side match. |
| The
Grove v Hextable - August 15 2004 The
Grove failed to build on their early initiative and they had to settle for
a draw in their home fixture against Hextable. Colin Bruin 50 and Peter
Mayhew 41 got the innings off to a flying start adding 80 for the first
wicket before both fell to stumpings. 20 from Mark Fiore and an unbeaten
25 from Mark Hammond saw them through to 188 for 7 at tea. Hextable made
steady progress before the introduction of Alan Burgess in to the attack
taking 5 for 8off his 6 overs. Despite the regular rotation of the bowling
attack the Innings closed on 100 for 7. |
| The
Grove v Farningham - August 22 2004 The
Grove could only muster a draw as they played second fiddle on their
travels at Farningham. The home side took full advantage of some wayward
bowling and inept fielding as they helped themselves to 255 for 3 at tea.
In reply The Grove openers added 55 for the first wicket before Hammond
was first to go for 27. Colin Bruin continued to take up the challenge
hitting an unbeaten 92 and with Paul Hartley 22no put on 80 for the fifth
wicket as they reached 202 for 4 at stumps. |
| The
Grove v Eynsford - August 29 2004 The

challenge of a young Eynsford team at the Riverside. In a 35 over a side
game Norman Winterman 39 and Colin Bruin 33 put on 77 for the opening
wicket before both fell. Shane Carroll hit a quick fire 43, well supported
by Alan Burgess 29,to finish on 188 for 5 Liam Hammond returned figures of
3 for 23 and with Mark Fiore picking up 3 for 35 at the other end the innings
collapsed to 77 all out. |
| The
Grove v Montrose Park - September 5 2004 The
Grove chalked up yet another win thanks a spirited performance from their
bowlers as they restricted Montrose Park to 153 for 9 off 40 overs. The
home teams batting struggled to make a major impact with Mark Fiore (2 for
24) and Mohammed (2 for 28) both off 8 overs being the pick of the Grove's
attack. Tony Pope and Colin Bruin (41) opened the reply for The Grove
adding 81 off the first 20 overs. Pope remained resilient at the crease
and carried his bat to the end for a well earned (61 no), and along with
Mark Fiore (20 no) secured a seven wicket victory with 4.5 overs to spare. |
| The
Grove v Irving - September 12 2004 The
Grove were frustrated in their efforts to force victory as a very week
Irving shut up shop before their innings even started. After their
cheating batsman who didn't walk last year they dropped two senior batsmen
down the order in a unsporting move to play for the draw from ball one.
The Grove bowled and fielded extremely well and it was a moral victory as
the Irving innings ended on 116 for 8. Mohammed and Fiore pick up 3 for 40
and 3 for 26 respectively. Earlier the home side looked to be heading
for a big score after Winterman 49 Bruin 37 and Fiore 20, had them handily
placed at 131 for 3, but a rare Grove collapse saw them crash to 160 all
out. |
| The
Grove v Old Pilotonians - September 19 2004 On
a pitch that favoured the bowlers The Grove left it until the penultimate
ball of the game to secure a 3 wicket over Old Pilotonians. With the
visitors put in to bat they felt the going tough as Tony Pope with 5 for 5
helped reduce them to 99 all out. The Grove reply showed as many
weaknesses as they slumped to 13 for 4 before a fifth partnership of 30
between Desmond Hewagama 23 and Tony Pope put their side back on track.
Pope completed his unbeaten 50 with a boundary as the Grove got home with
three wickets in hand. |
| The
Grove v Bromley Common - September 26 2004 The
Grove suffered only their second loss of a very successful season. Weakened
by the loss of some regulars it proved one game too many for the visitors
as they went down by 158 runs. Carroll took 3 for 54 and Bruin, Hartley
& extras with 21 a piece were the only contributions with the bat. |
